The temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and features impressive stone carvings. Don’t miss the giant guardian Dvarapalas at the entrance.Ta Som: Visit Ta Som, a small Buddhist temple built by King Jayavarman VII. It sits on a circular island and is surrounded by a moat. The temple was originally designed as a hospital, and bathing in its pools was believed to cure diseases. Explore the serene surroundings and admire the ancient architecture.
Neak Pean: Explore Neak Pean, an artificial island with a circular Hindu temple. It was associated with the Preah Khan temple and is believed to represent Anavatapta, a mythical healing lake in the Himalayas. The temple’s name means “entwined serpents,” referring to the sculptures of snakes around its base.
Preah Khan: End your day at Preah Khan, a temple built by King Jayavarman VII to honor his father. This temple served as a center for a substantial organization, with almost 100,000 officials and servants. Wander through the labyrinthine galleries, and appreciate the blend of Buddhist and Hindu elements. Like Ta Prohm, Preah Khan remains largely unrestored, allowing nature to reclaim its space.
Lunch: Take a break and enjoy a delicious Cambodian meal. You can find food stalls near the temple complexes.
Banteay Srei: This temple is renowned for its intricate pink sandstone carvings and is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.
Days 3:
Phnom Kulen Waterfall: Start your day by heading to Phnom Kulen, also known as Kulen Mountain. It’s located about 48 kilometers from Siem Reap and takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to reach by car or van. The mountain is famous for its waterfalls, which are a refreshing sight
You can swim in either waterfall, so don’t forget your swimwear!
Lunch: After enjoying the waterfalls, take a break and have lunch. There are local food options available near the waterfalls.
Floating Village: Explore a nearby floating village. These villages are unique communities built on stilts above water. You’ll get a glimpse of daily life on the water, including houses, schools, and markets.
Take a boat tour to see the floating houses up close and learn about the local culture and traditions.
Days 4:
Koh Ker: is a remote archaeological site located about 120 kilometers (75 miles) away from Siem Reap and the ancient Angkor Wat complex.
It was briefly the capital of the Khmer Empire under the reign of kings Jayavarman IV and Harshavarman II (928–944 AD).
Beng Mealea: lies 40 kilometers (25 miles) east of the main group of temples at Angkor, along the ancient royal highway to Preah Khan Kompong Svay. The temple was surrounded by a large moat (1025 meters by 875 meters) and oriented toward the east. Carvings depict both Hindu and Buddhist motifs, and the temple’s architectural style closely resembles that of Angkor Wat.
